How to sync Google Calendar and Google Tasks with Pingr

Open More, then Google in Pingr, connect your Google account and tick the calendars and task lists you want. Sync is two-way: changes made in Pingr go to Google and changes made in Google come in. Disconnect any time and choose to keep or remove what was imported.

Many people keep their events in Google Calendar and their to-dos in Google Tasks and want better alerts on top, without moving house. Pingr can sit next to both. It imports the calendars and task lists you choose, lets you edit them in Pingr, and sends your edits back. This guide walks through connecting, choosing, what syncs, and how to leave.

Connect and choose

  1. In Pingr open More, then Google. The same screen is under Settings as Google integration.
  2. Tap Connect Google and sign in. Google asks for access to Calendar and to Tasks, and you can see exactly what is requested on its screen.
  3. Back in Pingr you see the calendars and the task lists in your account. Nothing syncs until you choose. Tick the ones you want.
  4. Tap Start syncing. Later, use Save choices after changing the ticks.

A calendar marked read only in Google is shown as read only in the list. Pingr can still show its events, but it will not push changes back to it.

You choose what syncs. Changes travel both ways.

What two-way sync means

In Pingr each synced calendar or task list becomes a list, and a list is also a calendar with a colour and a show or hide switch. You will find the Google lists in the lists drawer under Google calendars and Google task lists, each with a toggle. Create, change or delete an event in Pingr and the change goes to Google. Do it in Google and it arrives in Pingr. Tasks follow the same rules, including due dates and completion.

How sync behaves
SituationWhat happens
You edit an event in PingrThe change is sent to Google
You edit it in GoogleIt arrives in Pingr on the next sync
Both sides changedGoogle's version is kept and replaces the one in Pingr
An event is deleted in GoogleIt is deleted in Pingr, even if you edited it meanwhile

When changes arrive

Tap Sync now on the Google screen, or in the lists drawer, to sync at once. Pingr also checks Google in the background on a schedule, and listens for notifications from Google Calendar where Google offers them. Google Tasks has no such notification, so task changes made in Google arrive on a scheduled check or when you tap Sync now. After a sync the screen reads, for example, "Brought in 3 changes from Google" or "Up to date", and says how long ago the last sync was.

If Google asks you to sign in again

Sometimes Google withdraws access, for example after a password change. The screen then says that Google needs you to sign in again, and a Reconnect Google button restores sync without losing your choices. Your items stay on your phone meanwhile, and alerts keep ringing, because they never depended on the connection.

Disconnecting

Choose Disconnect Google. Pingr asks what should happen to the calendars, lists and items already in Pingr. Keep them in Pingr turns them into ordinary Pingr items. Remove them from Pingr takes the Google items out. Either way Pingr revokes its access to your Google account and deletes the stored tokens. You can also revoke Pingr in your Google Account permissions.

Privacy in one paragraph

Data from Google goes to an AI provider only when you ask an AI feature to work with those items, for example Plan my day. The privacy policy has the full list of what is processed and why.

Where Pingr is not the best fit

Pingr does not replace Google Calendar for sharing calendars with other people, since shared calendars between Pingr users are not part of the app. Some Google features, such as certain repeat patterns, do not map and are skipped. Connecting is optional, and Pingr works without any Google account. If you rely on Google's own app for video-call links and appointment pages, keep using it alongside Pingr.

Questions and answers

Do I need a Google account to use Pingr?

No. You can sign up with an email and password, or continue with Google or GitHub. Syncing Google Calendar and Google Tasks is optional.

Can I choose only some calendars?

Yes. Nothing syncs until you tick the calendars and task lists you want, and you can change the ticks later with Save choices.

What happens to my Google items if I disconnect?

You choose. Keep them in Pingr as ordinary items, or remove them from Pingr. Nothing is deleted in your Google account by disconnecting.
