Cookie Policy

The cookies and local storage Pingr uses, and how to control them.

1. The short version

Pingr sets one strictly necessary cookie, and only once you sign in on the web: your session. It is httpOnly, so no script on the page can read it. Your preferences live in your browser's local storage.

The only optional part is analytics: Google Analytics 4 on the website and, in the Android app, PostHog and Mixpanel. Nothing loads or is sent until you accept (cookie banner on the web, switch in the app Settings). Reject keeps it off, and you can change your mind any time.

We run no advertising or cross-site tracking, and fonts are served from our own domain, so loading a page does not give your IP address to a font service.

2. Strictly necessary (always on)

• pingr_session (cookie, httpOnly, secure, SameSite=Lax): keeps you signed in. Set when you sign in, cleared when you sign out, expires after 30 days without use.

• pingr_oauth (cookie, httpOnly, secure, SameSite=Lax): exists only for the few minutes of a "Continue with Google / GitHub" sign-in, to check that the provider sent you back to the same browser. Deleted when that sign-in finishes.

Under the ePrivacy Directive and UK PECR, storage strictly necessary to provide a service you asked for does not need consent.

3. Preferences stored on your device

These live in your browser's local storage, stay on your device and are removed if you clear site data: your theme and view preferences, a cached copy of your own items so pages show instantly while fresh data loads (removed when you sign out), the last time zone we sent, and your answer in the cookie banner with the time you gave it.

4. Analytics (only with your consent)

Google Analytics 4 on the website tells us in aggregate which pages are visited and where people leave. It loads only after you choose Accept. It sets _ga and _ga_<id> cookies (2 years) holding a random identifier, not your name, email or any item. It receives only the site and path of a page, never your items, and ad personalisation is off.

In the Android app, PostHog and Mixpanel receive usage events, app version, device type and a random pseudonymous identifier, only if you switch product analytics on. Never the content of your items, your name or your email.

If you withdraw consent, analytics stops immediately and these cookies are deleted. There are no marketing or advertising cookies, and we do not sell personal information.

5. Managing your choices

Change your analytics choice any time from Cookie settings on the website, or the product analytics switch in the app Settings. You can clear everything from your browser (clear site data). That signs you out and resets preferences; your account and items are not affected. Blocking the session cookie stops sign-in from working on the web.

6. Changes and contact

If we add a cookie or tracker, we update this page and the consent version first, so an earlier consent is never reused for something new.
